This sign in the stall in the restroom at McCarran in Las Vegas struck me. I have such a difficult time thinking about the heartbreaking atrocities of human trafficking. What can we do to create more awareness and find a solution to end this horror?
What also struck me was the handwritten note on there that said “You are loved”, because that is the truth and I pray that if someone in that situation sees that that they will remember it. I truly believe kindness – which to me means living consciously – is the answer to every problem we face as individuals and a society.
I have to believe in the goodness in people and focus on bringing in the light for others and keep my heart open instead of shutting down and blocking out the suffering of others and all the things that sadden, anger, and concern me.
Each time I speak up instead of swallowing my words or pushing the pain away, I find like-minded and like-hearted people who have the same concerns and I feel empowered that I, and we, can make a difference in the life of another person, one human at a time.
Let’s keep asking the hard questions and collaborating together in whatever small way we can to alleviate the suffering of others.
