Image thumbnail for My Go-To Vegan Chocolate Brands

If you are experimenting with cutting out dairy  or curious if vegan chocolate could possibly taste as good as your better known brands, fret not! Contrary to what dairy producers will tell you, milk does not do a body good, and there is a plethora of organic, Non-GMO, fair trade, sustainable, vegan chocolate brands on the market that are not only more healthful, but way more delicious too!

Dark chocolate and cacao supply potassium, calcium, vitamin C, iron and copper and are rich in iron and magnesium. They are full of antioxidants, which are valued for their anti-aging benefits, and rival the levels found in blueberries, acai berries, red wine and green tea.  This is truly all the information I need to get my daily chocolate fix sans the guilt!

Here are some of my favorites. Try them all (not in one day) and see what you think! And remember, it is always acceptable to have chocolate for breakfast!

Why Experiment with vegan foods and a plant-based lifestyle?

“Not only are animal products unnecessary for optimal health, an increasing number of nutritionists and health professionals are acknowledging animal products are harmful to our health. Meanwhile, a healthy vegan diet helps reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes” – Vegan Starter Kit – www.vegankit.com

The first book I read on the benefits of a Whole Foods Plant Based diet was “The China Study” by Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Thomas Campbell written in 2004 and arguably the most comprehensive study on nutrition ever done.

The first documentary I saw on the subject was “Forks Over Knives” in 2011, which examines the claim that degenerative diseases can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. These 2 resources alone changed the way I viewed food forever, and I have been mindful about what I put into my “body temple” and paying attention to how food makes me feel ever since.

Since then much research and evidence has emerged to support this the benefits of eliminating or cutting back significantly on our consumption of animal products.

Other Physicians I follow on this subject are:

Dr. Neal Barnard

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Dr. Esselstyn

Dr. T. Colin Campbell

Dr. Dean Ornish

Dr. Michael Greger

Dr. John McDougall

Don’t take anyone’s word for anything on any subject! Do the supporting and opposing research, experiment with what works for YOUR BODY, and do what feels best and makes sense to you!

I don’t label myself a “vegan” or “vegetarian”. It’s not accurate and too confining. I primarily follow a Whole Foods Plant Based Diet (WFPB) and very occasionally eat meat, fish, or dairy when I’m in certain situations or when I feel like my body is craving them. Mostly I feel best when I eat the way I believe I was intended to eat – food from the earth that did not cause harm to any living being or was made in a factory. This is the kindest thing I can do for my body, and it’s kind to animals and the environment as well.

Explore these sites, try a new brand, and let me know what you think!
